Day 6, Sedburgh to Burneside, 16.8 miles - possibly more, my watch stopped working, 1.89 miles/hour. So with the short day yesterday, we are making up for it today. But the terrain is reasonable. We started with the Inn proprietor asking if we were prepared for the thunderstorm. We were—mostly! Three TORRENTIAL rain storms throughout the afternoon left us soaked through by the time we arrived at The Jolly Anglers. It was actually one of our favorite days though. We leave Yorkshire Dales National Park and enter Lake District National Park, so new scenery through the rain drops. It’s also our 6th wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary to us!
While I haven’t mentioned much about the sheep, there are a lot of them on the trail, and they are very interested in us. They always turn their heads and stare at you. And then if you get in their bubble, they run away. The sheep were a positive highlight of the trip and I liked learning about them.
The Jolly Anglers. Accommodations for the night. I also stayed here in 1997. We arrived here drenched after the third downpour, and were happy to see Sonia and Ian with whom we’ve been trail hop scotching over the week. Had a nice low-key anniversary dinner with our trail friends. (this pic was taken the next morning, we were in no state for pictures when we arrived).
