Back to The Dales Way

Day 5, Winshaw to Dent, 9.62 miles, 1.61 miles/hour. The trail now follows the River Dee into Dentdale. We had a short walk today, so we took our time. Arrived in Dent just after 2:30 pm. Rather easy walking today, much of it was along a paved road, and then flat along the River Dee. A bit more populated now once we reach Cowgill.

The village of Dent. A quaint village with cobblestone windy roads. It was settled in the 10th century by vikings. The birthplace of Adam Sedgwick in 1785, one of the founders of modern geology. We stayed at The George and Dragon.

Dent is also famous for their Terrible (great) Knitters, a cottage industry from the 19th century. They have a nice museum and heritage center. I bought some yarn.
