Day 3: Hubberholme to Winshaw

Day 3, Hubberholme to Winshaw, 12.1 miles, 1.74 miles/hour It was a lower mileage day, and we had some reprieve from the sun with partly overcast conditions. Big day though, we reach the highest point of the trail, and the midpoint of the trail. It’s the most remote part of the trail and my favorite.

The River Wharfe transitions to Oughtershaw Beck.

Nethergill Farm. Along Oughtershaw Beck, this farmhouse offers snacks and cold drinks, with an honesty box. It is also the only bathroom for miles. What a great place. Has maps, and other resources inside to help you orient yourself to the region. I believe they also offer camping (some friends we met on the trail, stayed there). We had lunch here with the group from Portland we met in Hubberholme and Winshaw.

In 1997, there were a lot of these ladders over the stone fences. Many have been replaced with stone steps, but this one still remains.

On the hillside, leading to the highest point on the trail

Highest point of the trail (1,713 feet). The trail meets The Pennine Way which follows a Roman Road. We walked the valley behind up to this view point. We caught up with some fellow hikers here that we met earlier on the trail. (We call them Portlandia - awesome bunch).
